Honda to CPO Used Cars a Decade Old

2022-04-02 03:55:56 By : Mr. Kevin Chen

If you’re shopping for a second-hand Honda or Acura older than even that forgotten bottle of ranch in the back of your fridge, we’ve some good news. Those brands are allegedly expanding their HondaTrue certified pre-owned program to vehicles stretching back 10 years from its original in-service date.

Despite this announcement’s proximity to April Fool’s Day, there’s more than enough information released by Honda and Acura to warrant a second look at the program details. HondaTrue Used will be the third tier of the brand’s CPO program, with HondaTrue Certified and Certified+ covering vehicles of other ages and conditions. HondaTrue Used is said to provide vehicles up to 10 years old with both powertrain and non-powertrain coverage of 100 days or 5,000 miles after the time of purchase. Also part of the deal is three months’ worth of SiriusXM satellite radio and roadside assistance for the 100-day timeframe. The company will throw in a free oil change as well.

“HondaTrue Used is a critical new gateway to the Honda brand, especially for young and first-time buyers,” said Dan Rodriguez, Manager of Auto Remarketing at American Honda. “Customers can now shop for a high-quality certified used Honda on our website and buy with confidence from the most knowledgeable and experienced source – a Honda dealer.” If the customer hates their new-to-them car, there is a 3-day/300-mile exchange policy which is surely rife with conditions (one of which is clearly stated to be that the exchange has to be on another CPO vehicle).

The only reason we bring up April Fool’s is this announcement’s closeness to April 1st and the fact there is apparently no mileage limit on vehicles to which the HondaTrue Used program can be applied. This means that, technically, a 2012 Acura TSX Sport Wagon with 500k on the clock would qualify so long as it passed the rigors of a 112-point inspection. Still, your author has found collateral on the HondaTrue Used program dated all the way back to December and it’s unlikely Honda would go through the trouble of creating that document just for a laugh.

With used car prices in the stratosphere, this could be a good play for the company to drag in new buyers – particularly ones shopping at a lower price point than found on other CPO products.

“powertrain and non-powertrain coverage of 100 days or 5,000 miles”

That’s a very low risk commitment for almost any brand.

Came here to say something similar. That’s not much of a yardstick for a “Certified” vehicle. It barely outlasts the SiriusXM freebee for crying out loud.

Brandon’s America. The new Cuba. Sigh.

In fairness to Brandon’s numerous failures in such a short time, this “CPO the old ass stuff” idea was being kicked around prior to 2020. Now you could make the argument the numbers now work because of Brandon but again this isn’t a brand new concept.

Y’all loved the free market so much under the moron – what changed?

And who’s Brandon? Is that a pedo fhing?

@Veeg-“Americans are accustomed to their leaders being publicly jeered, and former President Donald Trump’s often-coarse language seemed to expand the boundaries of what counts as normal political speech.

But how did Republicans settle on the Brandon phrase as a G-rated substitute for its more vulgar three-word cousin?

It started at an Oct. 2 NASCAR race at the Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama. Brandon Brown, a 28-year-old driver, had won his first Xfinity Series and was being interviewed by an NBC Sports reporter. The crowd behind him was chanting something at first difficult to make out. The reporter suggested they were chanting “Let’s go, Brandon” to cheer the driver. But it became increasingly clear they were saying: “F— Joe Biden.”

NASCAR and NBC have since taken steps to limit “ambient crowd noise” during interviews, but it was too late – the phrase already had taken off.” https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2021/oct/30/how-lets-go-brandon-became-code-for-insulting-joe-/?utm_source=GOOGLE&utm_medium=cpc&utm_id=chacka&utm_campaign=TWT+-+DSA&gclid=CjwKCAjwopWSBhB6EiwAjxmqDXo8EUndtrxxUWo6X3aXwhdXTLdzKPi-beTaQVaVThRr7dWq6lXlPBoC-t0QAvD_BwE

The Trump cult used this as their anti Biden chant. If someone would have told them “Go Putin go” they would be chanting that as well.

Wait. “Brandon’s America”? When did Detroit buy Honda?

Brandon doesn’t know that Honda is not an American brand. Even his handlers can’t seem to get it right. Ah…liberal leadership.

I have a 9 year old Acura where the only problems are scratches in the paint and a grill that got whacked by a deer. Easy enough to CPO.

“We’d rather sell you a used car than continue to offer inexpensive new cars like the Fit.”

eggsalad- The difference is people buy used Accords, CRVs, Civics, and Pilots, etc., and the Fit was abysmal in sales. Maybe that had something to do with it. Along with being the worst car in it’s class.

The Fit was worse than the Spark, Versa Note, Fiesta, Yaris, Kia Soul? I dunno about that one chief.

Veeg- The Fit refinement and highway manners were really bad. Goggle a couple of reviews and get back to me.

The Fit was worse than the Spark, Versa Note, Fiesta, Yaris, Kia Soul? I dunno about that one chief.

The Fit is not a bad car it is just more primitive and less refined but it was meant to be an inexpensive subcompact with good mpgs. The Spark itself is not bad especially with a manual and the same is true that it was an inexpensive and efficient subcompact. These were not 40k and above vehicles so to expect them to deliver the same quality of interior and ride is unrealistic. Even the Fiesta with a manual transmission is not bad but the double clutch automatic is unreliable. As for the Versa Note again not bad but don’t buy one with the Jatco CVT. Yaris is fairly reliable. Kia Soul has not so good engines which have a tendency to burn oil.

“The Fit is not a bad car -it is just more primitive and less refined .

Yea-OK. But it’s not a bad car. Then I guess anything that “runs and drives” counts as not a “bad car”.

It’s really mazing that “it’s a Honda so it has to be a good car”. All manufacturers make a stinker every now and then-and the Fit just happens to be a Honda.

The Fit is an excellent car in many ways, and if you know any owners you know they have a near-religious devotion to the cars. It was never meant to be a highway cruiser. It’s cheap to buy and run, dependable, and has extraordinary packaging that allows its tiny self to feel like a midsize car and carry all sorts of oddly-shaped stuff inside.

Some of the competitors are more refined but most of them lack the reliability and all of them lack the extraordinary packaging.

I like Honda and Acura a lot, but I have to agree about the Fit’s manners and feel. For its size, it had a ton of room on the inside, lots of features for the price, and was reliable, but the highway ride would test the strongest souls among us and engine and tire noise was pretty loud.

It seems like Honda has let the tire noise issue go unresolved for generations now. I can’t vouch for the current Civic generation since I wasn’t going to drive 120 miles each way to get to the closest Civic Si that was marked up $10,000 over sticker. So maybe that new generation has improved a bit.

My 2015 Fit purchased new needed over $6000 in engine repairs before it hit 60000 miles. Good design let down by lousy direct injection engine Fortunately after the dealer told me too bad Honda of America stepped in and picked up about 90 percent of the repairs. Who among you thinks fuel injectors and gummed up valves are part of your powertrain? Pro tip, Honda does not.

“Pro tip, Honda does not.”

They apparently did because they released the motor. I’m happy Honda stepped up but 100% and/or a future buyback would have been the more appropriate way to handle it.

They released the motor but say those items are not covered by powertrain warrantee. So it doesn’t matter when they fail. I was a squeaky wheel so HOA stepped in. But the dealer service department was happy to bill me for fixing these items. By the way the two repairs were separated by about two weeks. So the $4000 fuel injector repair was just a clueless service department throwing parts at a code. Then later the head got pulled and the disgusting valves cleaned. That may have fixed the problem. I sold the car right after that when they told me to expect to have to pull the head and clean the valves every 30,000 miles.

if youre using crap gas and not changing the oil, things break. all that crap should have clogged the filter. never had to replace injectors or “gummed up” valves, but i stick with Top Tier gas.

same “crap gas” that runs just fine in every other vehicle I have ever owned. Direct Injection is of the devil, just ask momma :) I did oil changes every 3 thousand miles, one third the Honda requested interval, air filter changes every 10K. So…

more profit. simple as that.

Mikester, it’s carbon buildup that develops when oil mist from the PCV system hits the back of hot intake valves. Older cars constantly wash the gunk off because the port fuel injectors spray at the back of the valves. Direct injectors, on the other hand, spray right into the cylinder and never wash the valves. It has little to do with the quality of the gas or the oil change interval. If you don’t believe people here, “Google it.”

You can counter that with cam timing or a supplemental port injector. It is a problem that has been solved.

“especially for young and first-time buyers”

You really limit your business opportunities with this sort of thinking.

[i.e., some youngsters have big bucks to spend on a vehicle, some oldsters want to minimize their outlay for whatever reason, yada yada. Don’t pigeonhole people and you’ll get a lot further in life.]

ToolGuy- Young people are trying to figure out how to buy a $400,000.00plus house in many parts of the country and not thinking about buying $40,000.00 vehicles. IMHO.

they just need to apply themselves, not eat avocado toast or have a social life. easy as that! i did it myself, it can be done.

Don’t let 19% annual home price inflation bog you down! The median home price in 2021 was about $347,000. If the price trends stay the same, that house will be $65,000 more expensive in a year. By comparison, an average young couple spends something like $7500 per year on groceries. So all a young couple has to do is cut their food budget by … uh, let’s see … 870%, and there’s no problem at all!

Yawn. People said certain policies are likely to cause inflation. 81 Million people voted for them anyway. Not everyone can buy a house nowadays. As a home owner, that 19 percent is GREAT! If you are on the other side I am sure you can get an apartment or something. Maybe learn to code too!

Honda offering low-rate financing on CPOs? Lincoln does and its CPO deals with Lincoln financing are quite good.

Yeah those lazy millennials. If they saved $100 a day on avacado toast, they could have a down payment for that house in 3 years.

Since we all know conditions especially financial ones are static, and nothing could be different, let alone harder than it was 40 years ago.

Too bad avacados are $.99, and house prices keep rising. And it would take 40 years to save a down payment… If that $400,000 house didn’t appreciate.

honda makes good cars that last a decade and some dolt starts croaking out stuff about “brandon”.

According to these forums, Honda has made crap for a decade and the smart money is on a Kia Teluride.

As to Brandon, the best part of him being President is that he’ll never drive again…one less Buick driving oldster going 15 under the limit in the left lane with their turn signal on.

Just put Lawrence Welk or Matlock on for the guy and let him enjoy his twilight years. Why anyone that age would want a job, let alone to be President is beyond me. Why a bunch of idiots would want him to be thier leader is perplexing as well.

It’s almost like the dims said “trump is a narcissistic arrogant idiot, how can we one up that?”…..”wait, we got this guy, 5 decades in office without a single worthwhile accomplishment, can’t make a speech without saying something completely idiotic, he has dementia, and he is almost as corrupt as the Clintons” Now we just need enough “mail in ballots” to overcome the fact that Trump has actually been an effective president. Hold my beer..

Art Vandelay- Do you know what it takes to qualify for a $400,000.00 mortgage? OR rent for a one bedroom apartment in ANY MAJOR CITY? OR-how much a programmer or website developer makes to start? I’m guessing you very ignorant on these matters but after my post you will probably look it up-hopefully.

First the community organizer on the downlow who didn’t miss a beat in continuing to bomb the world and make the bankers richer, then the narcissistic con man who kept on bombing while making the bankers even richer, and now a demented old man who doesn’t even know where he is most of the time but coincidentally enough the bombs keep dropping and the bankers keep winning.

If going on twenty years of this failure to add up hasn’t put the lie to Presidents leading things then I don’t know what ever will.

It’s fun watching Brandon argue with Brandon. Sanctions will deter Putin. Sanctions won’t deter Putin. I never said sanctions would deter Putin. New sanctions will change Putin. Putin won’t be swayed by sanctions. I never said sanctions would stop Putin. All you have to do is occasionally whisper. I know none of this is his thinking, he is far to gone to write his own speeches, but it’s still funny. And by funny I mean sad and terrifying. On a positive note he took a break from record inflation, war, millions crossing the border illegally to say “we all celebrate transgender day” You go boy! (or whatever pronoun is pc)
