LOGAN — A 22-year-old Logan woman has been arrested for stealing a set of scriptures and hiding drug syringes inside of them, law enforcement said. Cheylee Marie Morgan was booked Monday into the Cache County Jail.
According to an arrest report, Logan City Police officers were called to a reported burglary Monday morning. The complainant said a woman, identified as Morgan, had left their residence with a set of scriptures inside a case and a pair of shoes. She was seen getting into a red passenger car and speeding away.
As police were investigating, they received a call that Morgan was at the hospital and had asked to be taken to the emergency room.
When police responded to the ER, they reported Morgan was seen holding a set of scriptures on her lap. She was also wearing the stolen shoes.
Police searched the scripture case and located several syringes that tested positive for drugs. While being interviewed, Morgan admitted to using “molly and methamphetamine,” according to the report.
During questioning, Morgan told officers that she had been raped. However, when police transported her to the Cache Valley Hospital to have a sex assault exam performed, she tried to flee from the waiting room, while still in handcuffs.
Morgan ran through the first door using her shoulder and into the vestibule where police caught up to her, grabbing her and sending her to the ground. She eventually told officers to just take her to jail, the affidavit explained.
Police claim Morgan was not making any sense, talking in circles and not answering any question in a manner that was understandable.
Jail records show Morgan was booked on suspicion of burglary of a dwelling, escaping from official custody and other offenses. Formal charges are pending the completion of officer’s investigation.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
